(2017/9/25 11:28:45)

The Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park, London has unveiled the first phase of its multimillion-dollar redesign, including a newly refreshed reception and lobby lounge. The concept conceived by London and HongKong-based design practice Joyce Wang drew inspiration from the property’s parkside location as well as royal heritage and the defining glamour of the early 20th century.

Two glass chandeliers resembling opening flowers illuminate upgraded reception areas alongside acorn-inspired fixtures and carpeting reminiscent of fallen leaves and bark. A polished aluminum sculpture fromartist Fredrikson Stallard anchors the reception and complements blown glass pieces made by artist San Min Lee, which includes Chinese pottery from the Ch’ing Dynasty. Local artisans collaborated on be spoke furnishings from hand-etched mirrors and unique artwork.

The next phase of the redesign will see the completion of there freshed Spa at Mandarin Oriental London and two new terrace-clad penthousesuites crafted by New York-based Adam D. Tihany. Upgrades to all 181 guestrooms and suites are slated for completion this summer, boasting a more luxurious aesthetic that pays homage to the Edwardian history of the building. Art Deco-inspired details from curated artwork to custom furniture will infuse warmth across the accommodations.
